Whether on the track or the street, at the club or the gym, the new KNWLS Nike collection embraces and enhances the female athlete’s every move.
The eight-piece collection from Nike and the venerable London-based label comprises a complete wardrobe offering for women, infusing athleticism, elegance and avant-garde fashion into a suit of high-femme armor that celebrates grace, power and fearless sensuality.
“To me, and I think to most women, sportswear is so transitional. I want to go play badminton wearing something practical and comfortable for the sport but also feel attractive and reflective of my style,” says Charlotte Knowles, co-founder, KNWLS. “The idea that you could even wear these pieces to the club after a run, that’s where we were coming from when designing the collection.”
The KNWLS Nike aesthetic takes shape in the collection’s hero item, the Scythe corset, which draws inspiration from the Nike FE/NOM Flyknit sports bra and is constructed using the same yarns as Nike Flyknit footwear, marking the first such use of the iconic technology. Featuring an exaggerated dip at the hem, adjustable hook-and-eye closures, lace-up detailing and a back zipper for ease, the corset represents the central ethos of the collection: the elevation of time-honored craft through a prism of technical innovation and athletic elegance.
This ethos extends to the second-skin Ghost top and pant, which marry KNWLS’ most emblematic styles and techniques with Nike’s commitment to athlete-centered innovation and design. Both pieces are crafted in a circular knit and dyed in an Asutex wash, with the top featuring graphic cutouts for breathability and aesthetic impact, and the pant sporting a subtle flair that nods to KNWLS’ signature silhouette.
“For this collection, we wanted to use Nike innovations in new ways to create timeless, appealing sportswear for women,” says Charlotte. “We used Flyknit sneaker technology to create a structured corset and developed fully-fashioned knitwear tops and leggings. And for the Air Max Muse, we created a bespoke molded TPU toe reminiscent of our Raptor boots, resulting in a completely new trainer silhouette.”
The short-sleeve Storm top features a bleached-out, plaid Dri-FIT fabric with a fitted waist and button fastenings at the flank. Meanwhile, the Joan twinset includes a cropped, hooded, weatherproof jacket and a matching double-layered skirt with deep zippered pockets and an interior tight short. The custom-developed technical plaid is darted with reflective thread, and contrast seam taping echoes the boning of KNWLS’ signature corsetry.
Further, the Razr Run bag reimagines an iconic KNWLS accessory in rugged nylon and leather, with a sturdy rubber base modeled on Nike’s first waffle outsole.
Rounding out the collection is an exclusive expression of the Air Max Muse, an innovative silhouette for women that reflects Nike’s timeless position at the intersection of sport and style, along with KNWLS’ irreverent and feminine design language. Blending ballet flats, vintage football trainers and the KNWLS’ Fang boot, the design reimagines Nike’s futuristic footwear with a bold, club-ready silhouette. A toe shape inspired by KNWLS’ 2020 autumn and winter footwear collection adds a futuristic-archaic edge that pairs with the sculptural Air Max Muse sole for strength and sensuality. Quilting and light spray artwork enhance the silhouette’s texture and highlight its form.
