Nike and the University of Oregon will release the final installment of their Generation O Series when the Ducks wear the new uniforms in their October 10 home game against UCLA at Autzen Stadium.
The uniforms take inspiration from Hayward Field, where Oregon football first played from 1919 to 1966, as the original home of speed and from the iconic athletes who have donned green and yellow on the track and football field. That blending of eras and sports honors the past and highlights the speed that always has been an edge for Ducks athletes.
The rich “Origin of Speed” storytelling starts with the bold colors, as the uniform fuses Oregon’s iconic green and yellow to create a new energetic color palette. The base color isn’t black — it’s Night Forest, which is Nike’s darkest green — and Green Strike, a debut color, combines with Volt to bring high visibility to the uniform’s unique features, along with reflective silver accents.
Every detail of the uniform is rooted in Oregon sport DNA, with direct input from numerous Ducks football players. The helmet and the shoulders of the jersey feature a kinetic wing, representing energy, at 26.2 degrees — a nod to the distance of a marathon. Leg side panels contain a word mark that leans forward instead of backward, symbolizing a first-place finish in what’s called the “Oregon Angle of Attack.” De’Anthony Thomas’ kick-return touchdown in the 2013 Fiesta Bowl, when he mimicked breaking the finish-line tape in a race, served as inspiration.
The “Origin of Speed” jersey numbers are wider at the top and leaner on the bottom, to mimic a superhero pose, and also include waffle print perforation – a pattern synonymous with Nike’s running shoes.
An Oregon “O” inspired by the architecture of Hayward Field and Autzen Stadium adorns the jersey’s shoulder. The outline of Autzen serves as the O, with the six original Hayward running lanes featured at the center. Lanes 4 and 5 are highlighted in a different color, in honor of late Ducks football players Spencer Webb and Khyree Jackson, respectively, who wore those jersey numbers. Hayward running lanes, complete with a clay hue, also are featured inside the Nike cleats that Oregon players will wear in the game.
Creation of this uniform, which started two years ago, was a collaborative process between Nike, Oregon football equipment administrator Kenny Farr and a board of selected Ducks athletes.
The Nike x University of Oregon “Origin of Speed” collection, which includes fan apparel, will be available Tuesday, September 29 via nike.com and select retail partners.
