Nike and Spotify are expanding their partnership by launching Make Moves, a global project to inspire girls to move to one song every day — supported by leading athletes, artists and creators from around the world.
The collaboration is designed to get girls moving to the soundtrack of a Nike x Spotify Make Moves playlist, helping them find their own sense of enjoyment and belonging in sport while unlocking confidence, joy and self-expression.
“Teenage girls should always be doing sport,” says Nike athlete Dina Asher-Smith, who features in the campaign. “You can make new friends, develop key communication and team-building skills, and do yourself proud. Perhaps most important, you learn to see your body in a new light — valuing and being proud of it for the incredible things it can do, not just what it looks like.”
The energetic Make Moves soundtrack is curated by athletes, artists and teen girls around the world, reflecting Nike and Spotify’s shared commitment to exploring innovative ways to meet teen girls where they are and help them make movement a daily part of their lives.
“Sometimes I don’t know whether I listen to music or music listens to me,” says Nike athlete Lotte Wubben-Moy, who features in the campaign. “That’s how in-tune I feel with my playlists. When I go for a run, I ask for hype music, and when I’m doing yoga, I need low-key tunes. I honestly feel like life could throw anything at me and I’d deal with it as long as I have my earphones with me.”
Through the project, creators and other key influences will encourage girls to create a lasting daily ritual involving movement and music, which are proven to have a profound and positive impact on mental wellbeing.
“Music has been my constant: a source of motivation, comfort and energy through all the highs and lows,” says Nike athlete Keely Hodgkinson, who features in the campaign. “That’s why a campaign focused on music and movement for teenage girls is so important. It’s during those years that so many girls start to drift away from sport — often because of confidence, pressure or simply not feeling like they belong. If we can help more young girls stay in sport — and find their own rhythm, with music and movement — we’re giving them tools for life.”
A 2024 World Health Organization report found 85% of teen girls globally aren’t meeting the recommended guidelines for physical activity. At the same time, teen girls often experience lower confidence, increased self-awareness and fear of judgment in sport unless they already excel in the activity.
This underscores the importance of Make Moves, which is intended to welcome teen girls into daily movement through a platform designed specifically for them — easing entry into the sport ecosystem, creating positive associations with sport and movement, and boosting confidence and self-expression.
“Campaigns about movement for teenage girls will always be of significance to me,” says Nike athlete Rhasidat Adeleke, who features in the campaign. “I was once that teenage girl, and the guidance I received took me beyond my wildest dreams. It’s crucial for me to pay it forward, especially in a time where movement among teenage girls is in decline.”
Make Moves reflects Nike’s commitment to the future of youth sport and a dedication, in collaboration with Spotify, to improving mental wellbeing among the next generation. It also marks the latest example of Nike’s worldwide efforts to take action to create a better world by getting girls moving.
The brand has published guides in Japan and France that help remove barriers to play and sport for girls, partnered with the Tucker Center to provide a free, evidence-based digital tool to help coach girls around the world, and collaborated with other leading brands to help instill confidence in girls and get them involved in sport.
