Nike has reached a major milestone in its work to help protect the future of sport: 100 percent renewable electricity across approximately 1,000 owned or operated facilities in approximately 40 countries.
Renewable electricity adoption and fleet electrification helped Nike reduce greenhouse gas emissions from owned or operated facilities by 77 percent from FY20, surpassing its goal of a 70 percent reduction. Further, Nike reduced manufacturing and transportation emissions by 47 percent from FY20.
Nike also shared the revalidation of its science-based climate targets for 2030. Assured by the Science Based Targets initiative, the targets reflect the latest climate science and focus Nike’s efforts on the areas of its value chain where it can have the greatest impact.
“Our focus on sustainability is stronger than ever, as is our commitment to serving athletes,” says Cimarron Nix, Chief Sustainability Officer, NIKE, Inc. “We continue to integrate sustainability across our business because helping protect the future of sport requires progress across the entire value chain.”
Nike’s progress extends from the energy powering its facilities to the materials used in its products. The company reached 51 percent environmentally preferred materials, exceeding its FY25 target, and continues to advance more sustainable product innovations, including Aero-FIT and ReactX.
That work is also showing up in new ways for consumers. From September 23 through 29, Nike (Re)Play at Nike SoHo will bring Nike Trade-In, repair, footwear cleaning, vintage, creative repair, recycling and donation together in one experience.
Nike (Re)Play builds on existing services like Nike Refurbished and Nike Recycling + Donation by bringing established and emerging offerings together so consumers have more ways to care for Nike products, extend their use, or responsibly part with gear they no longer need.
Through Nike Trade-In, consumers exchange eligible Nike and Jordan Brand footwear for a Nike digital gift card, with credit based on product style and original MSRP.
Consumers can also get Nike apparel, footwear and gear repaired or personalized, have footwear cleaned while they shop, and explore one-of-a-kind Nike Creative Repair pieces. Nike Vintage will feature daily drops from a 500-piece collection of vintage Nike running apparel curated and supplied by Tried and True Co. The pop-up will also accept unwanted or end-of-life Nike athletic footwear, apparel and gear for inspection, donation or recycling based on condition.
Consumers can visit the Nike (Re)Play Experience Page for Nike Trade-In eligibility details, and follow Nike Sustainability on the Nike App to learn more.
