Nike ACG is introducing the 10-ounce, 700-fill Lava Loft Down Jacket: an innovative layer purpose-built for the outdoor athlete and the unpredictable conditions they find along the trail.
Inspired by the needs of athletes navigating intense, technical terrain in the Dolomites and extreme temperature swings along the Rio Grande, Lava Loft is designed to adapt to the environment, no matter where an athlete runs.
Lava Loft is the ideal trail running field jacket, infusing tried-and-true Nike Running innovation with Nike ACG’s wild spirit to provide the breathability trail runners need for speedy single track or steep ascents without compromising comfort when temperatures drop or it’s time for a breather.
That essential adaptability is made possible by a data-driven combination of ExpeDRY™ Gold sustainably sourced, ultralight down insulation and Nike AeroLoft venting.
Nike ACG designers used the detailed, cellular-level Atlas body mapping system in the Nike Sport Research Lab to identify exactly where trail runners need cold protection and moisture venting, informing where and how each material was built into the jacket.
Nike ACG and Running teams then tested prototype versions of the jacket over hundreds of hours to dial in the precise placement of Nike AeroLoft perforations, which range from 0.7 millimeters to over 2 centimeters, to ace the exact combination of breathability and warmth trail runners crave.
The jacket is also built to take on the elements, with an outer layer built from a combination of Nike Dri-FIT, Repel four-way stretch, Ultra UV, and DWR hydrophobic recycled baffle materials.
The jacket weighs only 10 ounces (men’s medium) and fits in the palm of a hand once packed into its own pocket — making it an ideal addition to any trail running kit.
A “Pack it in. Pack it out.” message is also sewn into the pocket, reminding wearers of the wilderness stewardship Nike ACG and its athletes hold close.
Unveiled during the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, Lava Loft is born from Nike ACG’s four-decade legacy of chasing the call of the wild — across every terrain, in every season, through every condition.
The brand is dedicated to innovating at the speed of its world-class athletes, who depend on gear that keeps pace while they push into the most extreme conditions on Planet Earth.
In addition to the Lava Loft Down Jacket, that commitment is channeled into both the new ACG Ultrafly, a trail-tuned super shoe developed over 13 rounds of testing and more than 30,000 miles, and the development of Nike Radical AirFlow, a breakthrough material technology designed to combat the rising temperatures and heat indexes athletes can face on race day.
It’s also brought to life through the recently formed All Conditions Racing Department: an elite roster of athletes who are dedicated to high-speed pursuits, want to outrun everything, and will continue to pressure test every piece of Nike ACG gear.
The Nike ACG Lava Loft Down Jacket will be available globally beginning January 1 at nike.com and select retail locations.
