Nike Introduces the Giannis Freak 8

Nike is introducing the Giannis Freak 8, inspired by the physical dominance and unending work ethic that powers Giannis Antetokounmpo’s game.

The Freak 8 features an updated upper construction built to contain a full-length ReactX midsole. One of the clearest updates is a reinforced heel counter designed in a swooping feather pattern, reminiscent of wings. The synthetic upper helps secure Giannis over the footbed, while the midsole helps soften landings for explosive, single-leg moves like his feared Euro step. 

Every detail in the Freak 8 is underpinned by the design philosophy that a player like Giannis represents as a champion, a 10-time All-Star, and an all-league force: a player whose one-of-one athleticism is his competitive advantage. At the same time, one of Giannis’ key design priorities is to help share a competitive advantage with every young player who’s striving to reach the next level, which is why he was committed to maintain the same price point with the Freak 8 as the Freak 7.

Considerations like these, along with tangible elements of the shoe, like its debut pink colorway, stem from Giannis’ commitment to his daughters.

“I’m a father of girls, so I try to represent them as much as I can,” says Giannis. “I know they are too young to understand, but when they get older, they’ll understand that they inspired me to be better. Be a better father, a better person, a better husband, a better basketball player.”
