The next era of maximum cushioning has arrived.

Nike is unveiling its Vomero Premium and Vomero Plus road running footwear, innovative silhouettes designed to make running easier on the body by offering an unbelievably cushioned and comfortable ride, helping athletes unlock new levels of performance, impact protection and recovery.

Both silhouettes deliver the plush, comfortable ride athletes expect from Nike’s Vomero franchise — now with enhanced cushioning and increased responsiveness for an elevated experience that equips athletes of all abilities and intensities to run longer during everyday training.

The Vomero Premium combines ZoomX foam with exposed Air Zoom units in the heel and forefoot to deliver an ultimate sensation of maximum cushioning entrusted by elite athletes such as Faith Kipyegon, who has trained in the silhouette while preparing for her moonshot attempt to break the 4-minute-mile barrier. Meanwhile, the Vomero Plus is built with a full ZoomX midsole to offer an even softer, lighter and more responsive ride than the Vomero 18 — a favorite among runners as the icon of Nike’s maximum cushioning category of road running footwear.

"Everything we do begins with listening to the voice of the athlete,” says Deepa Ramprasad, Senior Director, Nike Running Footwear. “We always put the runner first — from our elite Nike athletes to runners embarking on their first runs. Their voices drive every step of our footwear creation process, shaping the innovations we build and the details we obsess. The Vomero Plus and Vomero Premium aren't simply two new shoes within our maximum cushioning line. They are created from deep insights and testing, offering distinct benefits that serve as powerful catalysts to help you get out the door feeling confident and cushioned, no matter where you are in your running journey."

As the pinnacle expression of Nike’s maximum cushioning road running footwear, the Vomero Premium is designed to meet the needs of elite marathon runners, who traditionally use a combination of super shoes and soft trainers while preparing for a race.

The new silhouette disrupts that standard, offering marathoners a single “super trainer” model to help them run more, recover faster and achieve their race-day goals.

As the ultimate recovery trainer, the Vomero Premium combines the best of Nike performance technology with a plush 55-millimeter heel stack height and learnings from the brand’s industry-leading super shoes to offer a new standard of maximum cushioning for recovery miles and easy runs.

Drawing inspiration from the anti-gravity treadmills elite athletes use to increase their mileage, push their bodies harder and speed up their recovery time, the Vomero Premium offers a data-informed combination of ZoomX foam and Air Zoom designed to create a low-impact running experience that enables athletes to feel like they can train beyond their limits.

“The Vomero Premium is a key part of my training journey to break the 4-minute mile,” says Kipyegon. “It's so soft, cushioned and comfortable, and it helps me train harder with less impact to allow me to recover faster and stay focused on my goal."

A ZoomX foam midsole provides ultimate propulsion and impact protection in every step, delivering roughly 85 percent energy return. Further, Nike designers exposed the Air Zoom units in the forefoot and heel to give each unit more room to expand and contract, increasing their benefit and providing even greater energy return.

When combined with the tallest heel stack in Nike’s road running footwear lineup, these innovations transform the running experience — delivering an entirely new expression of maximum cushioning in a bold visual design that captures attention as only Nike can.

“Anti-gravity treadmills supplement an athlete’s body weight so they can run with less impact, which our athletes tell us means more miles with less recovery time,” says Ashley Campbell, Expert Product Line Manager, Nike Running Footwear. “The Vomero Premium aims to provide a high amount of impact reduction and a similar sensation to the anti-gravity treadmill experience. As we do at Nike, we really pushed the boundaries of what was possible for this shoe through Air experimentation and learnings from our racing and max cushioning product.”

The Vomero Plus advances the comfort, cushioning and responsiveness of the Vomero 18, making it an ideal choice for runners aiming to increase their mileage with a plush ride that’s easy on the body, as well as those looking for a recovery shoe that’s comfortable from the first steps to the final mile.

Combining the cushioning technology of the Vomero franchise with learnings from the Invincible 3, the silhouette features a full-length ZoomX foam midsole with a 45-millimeter heel stack height — roughly similar to the Vomero 18 and 4 millimeters taller than the Invincible 3. The midsole leverages an evolved version of Nike’s lightest, softest and most responsive foam to deliver a propulsive feeling and roughly 85 percent energy return, making the Vomero Plus a top choice for longer runs.

“Psychologically, the Vomero Plus helps motivate me to get out the door and keeps me feeling smooth for my everyday runs," says Conner Mantz, a Nike athlete who won the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. “Physically, the maximum cushioning saves the pounding of my legs hitting the ground, especially when I’m running on the road. The Vomero Plus is the perfect amount of cushioning for me, and I feel energy return in just the right way."

A thoughtful midsole design, with increased rocker geometry and a wide platform, furthers the silhouette’s ultra-cushioned sensation without compromising responsiveness and stability. Meanwhile, the upper features soft, stretchy engineered mesh with enhanced comfort along the collar and tongue, and the outsole is made of high-abrasion rubber that delivers traction for high mileage.

What's more, the Vomero Plus was informed by the training needs and aspirations of dedicated women athletes. In particular, the Project Dreamweaver runners — a group of non-professional women athletes supported by Nike as they trained for the Olympic Trials — worked closely with Nike designers and engineers to refine the silhouette.

“The Vomero Plus is a great introductory shoe for a smooth, responsive and well-cushioned ride at a wide range of paces,” says Jess Hull, a Nike athlete and 2024 Olympic silver medalist in the 1,500-meter run. “It gives new runners the ability to run anywhere at any time without concern for firm surfaces or high impact on the body.”

The new Vomero Premium and Vomero Plus silhouettes round out Nike’s Vomero franchise, one of three distinct categories comprising the brand’s simplified road running footwear lineup, which is based on trusted icons and dedicated to what runners love most: cushioning.

The Vomero franchise reflects a new era of maximum cushioning for ultimate comfort, while Structure delivers supportive cushioning for a stable ride and Pegasus provides responsive cushioning for all-day energy return.

This lineup of complementary running silhouettes provides athletes with their preferred type of cushioned ride for whatever run they want to take. The lineup also makes it easier for runners to determine what footwear offers them the right mix of benefits, technology and price point, providing a more inviting and accessible experience — especially for runners gearing up for the first time or adding a new shoe to their rotation.

The introduction of the new Vomero silhouettes — and the innovation at the heart of Nike’s entire road running footwear lineup — reflects Nike’s history as the brand built by runners, for runners, and its continued commitment to creating the most technologically advanced products to help all athletes, from the elite to the everyday, reach their greatest potential.

The Nike Vomero Plus will be available August 7 at nike.com and select retail partners. The Vomero Premium will be available at select retail partners October 2 and globally October 16.
