Nike Introduces the S.T. Flare: A New Outdoor Basketball Shoe Designed for China Hoopers

With outdoor basketball continuing to grow in popularity across China, Nike is introducing the S.T. Flare to address the diverse conditions athletes face — helping them control the game, no matter the playing surface.

The S.T. Flare features an XDR outsole with a full-length macro herringbone pattern that provides grip and control for quick stops, sharp cuts and fast transitions on outdoor courts. For cushioning and energy return, the silhouette combines a Cushlon 3.0 foam midsole with a forefoot Air Zoom unit, offering soft, responsive underfoot comfort. A TPU shank enhances stability during lateral movement, helping athletes stay locked in through every possession.

“We closely studied the unique environments of basketball courts across China — from cement to blacktop to synthetic rubber materials,” says Ross Klein, Senior Director, Men’s Basketball Footwear Product Design. “The Nike S.T. Flare is built to meet the durability, traction and comfort needs of players who train and compete outdoors.”

To enhance protection and breathability, the silhouette’s upper features lightweight engineered mesh with reinforced zones in high-wear areas. The addition of Flywire technology and a lateral guardrail offers adaptive midfoot containment and helps reduce the risk of ankle rollover, giving athletes the confidence to stay aggressive during dynamic movement.
