During a time when it may feel like everything is changing, Nike wants to offer expecting and postpartum mothers a constant: performance apparel and footwear that is supportive, versatile and designed specifically to meet their needs.

With that aim in mind, Nike teams — powered by mothers and partners of mothers — have created a new wearable pump–compatible sports bra and an adjustable, easy-on walking shoe to support everyday movement and comfort.

The Nike (M) Swoosh Bra is designed to provide the flexibility mothers need. Adjustable cups accommodate wearable breast pumps; proprietary hardware on the straps allows individual strap drop-down for nursing; and the interior lining features Nike Leak Protection: Breast Milk, a special moisture-managing material that helps prevent visible breast milk leaks. To adapt to a changing body, the bra features adjustable cup capacity, and its flexible and adjustable bottom band expands with changing bellies. The bra’s padded foam straps are designed to alleviate pressure points, while mesh layers provide ventilation and stay-put wearable breast pump support — even during exercise.

“The market is limited when it comes to nursing sports bras, especially in the performance space — they’re either too stretchy and unsupportive or they’re too structured and can’t expand to adjust to hourly breast size fluctuations or wearable breast pumps,” says Fanny Ho, Nike Senior Manager, Design Innovation. “We spoke to countless women throughout this project who felt they were always having to compromise between comfort and support, and we wanted to create a product that could give them both.”

To meet mothers’ needs from the ground up, Nike’s created its first shoe for expecting and postpartum mothers, the Nike Reina EasyOn. Inspired by mothers and designed to adapt with you, the shoe features a proprietary Nike My-Fit Sockliner that allows the wearer to fold and snap the liner to adjust the shoe’s width to accommodate foot swelling during and after pregnancy. The Nike EasyOn design enables a no-hands entry into the shoe while keeping a secure fit. To support mothers’ fitness goals, from low-impact movement to walking to everyday wear, the Reina’s Nike Flyknit upper provides comfort, the shoe’s supportive plate helps prevent foot fatigue, and the sole’s wider stance and waffle traction help mothers feel safer and more stable.

“We believe innovating for motherhood is as important as any other Nike innovation, and we wanted this shoe to meet the varying and new needs that expecting and postpartum mothers have: ease of entry, adjustability and additional stability and comfort,” says Kelly O’Connor, Nike Director of Lifestyle Footwear Product. “As a mother of two, I wish I’d had the Nike Reina during my pregnancies.”

Sentiment like this helped drive passion and momentum for the bra and shoe, adds Ho, who has a 6-year-old son. “I can’t tell you how many people at Nike heard about the Nike (M) Swoosh Bra and Nike Reina and said, ‘We’ve been waiting for something like this,’” she says. “So many mothers and passion partners hustled to create these products because we knew that mothers needed them yesterday.”

In addition to the Nike (M) Swoosh Bra and Nike Reina EasyOn Shoe, Nike is expanding its Nike (M) collection, adding a new dress along with refreshed tanks, tops, shorts and tights.

To complement the Nike (M) offerings, Nike is expanding its motherhood-inspired workouts on the Nike Training Club app. Look out for new workouts designed for moms in the NTC app soon or check out the existing (M)ove Like a Mother Training Plan today.
