Coaches can change a child’s life for the better. Nike and its partners see a great opportunity to help train more coaches on how to remove barriers for all kids to benefit from play and sport. That belief especially holds true in Nike Social and Community Impact partnership with Leeds Beckett University and ICOACHKIDS, which helped form a new Nike Training Club app (NTC) curriculum for training youth coaches on how to bring a sense of play back into sport.
In three modules, each consisting of educational insights and practical workout videos, the material covers a range of topics, tips and activities, giving coaches the tools they need to encourage physical activity in a playful, captivating way. The program was developed for coaches, PE teachers, parents or caregivers—anyone who wants to learn more about the playful way to coach. The material includes short, educational content on the importance of play to keep kids engaged in sport as well as general directions on how to build more playful sessions, regardless of the sport.
"As the champion of play and sport, we know that having a caring coach is critical to helping kids see their potential," says Caitlin Morris, Vice President, Social & Community Impact for Nike. "We also know there are opportunities to empower more adults with practical coaching tips and tools that get kids moving—and ensure they’re having fun while doing so. Through our partnership with Leeds Beckett University and ICOACHKIDS, we’re providing Nike members with inspiring content that enables them to see themselves as coaches who can create environments that allow kids to thrive both on and off the field."
The content joins other Nike material designed with experts to build digital tools for empowering coaches to help kids reach their potential. How to Coach Kids, the Made to Play Coaching Girls Guide and the Coaching for Belonging Playbook are coaching resources and tools designed to teach caring adults how to create positive experiences for girls in sport. They can be found on Nike’s Made to Play website.
