Nike is a founding member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), an industry-wide group of more than 200 leading apparel and footwear brands, retailers, suppliers, academics and NGOs working to reduce the environmental impacts of apparel and footwear products. We have worked with SAC since 2009 to create an industry approach to the environmental footprinting of footwear and apparel products. We are also working with SAC to pilot test the European Union’s Product Environmental Footprint methodology.

Labor

Formed in 1999, the Fair Labor Association (FLA) is a collaborative effort of socially responsible companies, colleges and universities, and civil society organizations to improve working conditions in factories around the world. Nike’s compliance program is accredited by the FLA.

Better Work

Better Work is a collaboration between the United Nation’s International Labour Organization and the International Finance Corporation. Our partnership with Better Work aims to improve worker management cooperation, working conditions and social dialogue, helping workers understand their rights and gaining the skills needed to realize them.

Social Labor Convergence Program

The Social Labor Convergence Program is a pioneering initiative that seeks to develop a simple, unified and effective industry-wide way to assess labor, health and safety conditions in factories. It has the goal of replacing current proprietary audit tools used by individual companies.

Diversity & Inclusion

PeacePlayers International is globally recognized for uniting divided communities—leading with youth—through sport. By developing youth leaders, building relationships and changing perceptions, PeacePlayers is strengthening communities using sport as a tool to bridge divides. We’re working with PeacePlayers International to unite communities through sport.

Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold, through direct service and advocacy. The network of local Girls Inc. nonprofit organizations serves girls ages 6-18 at more than 1,400 sites in 337 cities across the United States and Canada. Nike has teamed up with Girls Inc. to support their “Sporting Chance” program that helps girls build a foundation for enjoying sports, adventure and physical activity throughout their lives.

Mentor

MENTOR is the leading national organization in ensuring quality youth mentoring relationships and connecting volunteers to opportunities in their local communities throughout the United States. MENTOR’s mission is to close the “mentoring gap” ensuring that young people receive the support they need to succeed in all areas of life. We’re working with MENTOR to help close the mentoring gap.

Materials

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a holistic agricultural standard system helping farmers use less water and fewer chemical pesticides and fertilizers, all while improving yields, profitability and livelihoods. For the past three years, Nike’s team—representing sustainability, materials, manufacturing and sourcing—has been working to convert Nike’s conventional cotton balance to BCI standards. The transition started out as a smaller sustainability initiative but soon became embedded across the business.

Textile Exchange

Textile Exchange is a non-profit organization committed to the responsible expansion of textile sustainability across the global textile value chain.

Leather Working Group

The Leather Working group is an organization that rates tanneries based on environmental standards for leather processing. Among the criteria the group uses for assessment are water consumption, waste management and the transparency of effluent treatment, with tanneries graded on a medal-rating scale.

The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) is the world authoritative body for the sports industry officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the industry representative within the Olympic Family. The WFSGI is composed of Executive and Board members, eight core Committees and additional working groups which exchange information on various issues and topics.
