At NIKE, Inc. “Nike”, we believe that, although there is no finish line, there is a clear starting line.
We believe a world-class responsible supply chain is grounded in standards that demonstrate respect for the people who make and move our product, the principles of a healthy and safe workplace, and the environment. The Nike Code of Conduct and Code Leadership Standards lay out the minimum standards we expect facilities to meet.
We work with suppliers that share our commitment to the well-being of workers, use natural resources responsibly and efficiently, manage their businesses responsibly and sustainably, and seek to move beyond minimum standards.
We expect all facilities to respect the rights of workers and advance their well-being, with particular care for people with unique vulnerabilities such as women, migrants, and temporary workers. We also expect suppliers to focus on areas such as emissions reduction, waste elimination, and protection of natural resources.
Since we first launched our Code of Conduct in 1992, we have continued to evolve our standards and programs. In 2025, we updated our Code of Conduct and Code Leadership Standards to better reflect our priorities across labor, health and safety, and the environment, as well as prepare for future regulations, further align with industry guidelines, and prioritize risks and sustainability targets.
The updated requirements to our Code of Conduct and Code Leadership Standards include:
- Elevated visibility to Nike’s Human Rights Statement and Nike’s Speak Up Portal by adding language to the Code of Conduct and Code Leadership Standards.
- Added requirements on the protection of worker’s data and clarified which languages need to be used, whether it be native, preferred, or best understood, in order to make the Code of Conduct accessible to all workers
- Adjusted foreign migrant worker section to mitigate risk for all migrant workers, both domestic and foreign, and clarified employer-covered fees and facility responsibility for migrant worker regularization costs
- Incorporated policies and procedures for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions such as clean energy procurement and GHG inventory management that mitigate risk and align with industry best practices
- Expanded the Water is Valued standard and renamed it to Nature is Valued to encompass Nike’s programmatic development
- Added Chemistry requirements to further align with the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) chemical management guidance and to establish broader chemical visibility
- Refined Traffic and Vehicle Management CLS and added Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMRs) guidance to reduce Health & Safety risk
- Included a Traceability standard to support Nike’s vision for traceability to know the journey of every product from field to athlete* and back again
Our Code of Conduct and CLS are integral to our sourcing strategies and to how we evaluate baseline facility performance. They act as a foundation for determining the suppliers we’ll work with as we grow our business. We regularly review facilities to assess their ability to meet our high standards. These reviews take the form of verified industry assessments or audit visits —both announced and unannounced—by internal and external parties and measure performance of facilities against the Nike Code of Conduct and Code Leadership Standards.
