청카롱, 2회 연속 금메달 쾌거

홍콩의 플뢰레 펜싱 국가대표이자 나이키 운동선수인 청카롱은 긴장감 넘치는 결승전 끝에 플뢰레 남자 개인전에서 두 번째 금메달을 목에 걸었습니다. 그는 도쿄 올림픽에서 첫 금메달을 기록했습니다.

청카롱은 '길을 잃지 말라'는 좌우명을 가지고 있는데, 이는 그가 처음 펜싱을 시작한 이유를 잊지 말고 언제나 경기를 즐기라는 의미를 가지고 있습니다.

양친이 모두 홍콩 내셔널 리그 농구 선수인 운동선수 집안에서 자란 그는 초등학교 4학년 때 펜싱을 시작했습니다. 2017년 나이키 운동선수가 되었으며 청소년 세계선수권대회에서 우승했습니다. 나아가 2022년 펜싱 월드컵에서 우승을 하였으며 올해 초 그랑프리에서도 우승을 기록했습니다.

"어렸을 때는 가끔 경기에서 지면 울기도 했습니다. 아주 많이 슬펐어요." 청카롱의 말입니다. "하지만 부모님께서 말씀해 주셨습니다. '설령 지더라도, 결코 상대에게 쉬운 승리를 안겨주지는 말라'고. 제가 지고 있을 때면 언제나 이 말을 떠올리곤 합니다. 나를 이기는 것이 그리 쉽지는 않을 거라고 말이죠. 그리고 결국은 어떻게든 제가 이겼습니다."
