Qinwen Zheng gana la medalla olímpica de oro en el individual femenino

La atleta Nike Qinwen Zheng ha jugado un partido impresionante en sus primeras Olimpiadas y se ha llevado la medalla de oro en la final individual femenina.

"Mis compis dicen que es como si tuviera fuego en mi interior", cuenta la joven de 21 años. "Tienes que saber cómo usarlo contra tu oponente, y no contra ti misma. Manejo mi espíritu competitivo de forma muy positiva, y es así como puedo competir contra jugadoras de alto nivel".

Llegó a su primera final en un Grand Slam a principios de año en el Abierto de Australia 2024, con lo que se convirtió en la primera finalista china desde la victoria de Li Na en 2014. Este logro ha sido decisivo en su carrera y le ha otorgado el puesto número 7 en la clasificación de competiciones individuales de la Asociación de Tenis Femenino. Tres años antes, había quedado en la posición número 630. "Tenemos que salir a luchar por nuestros sueños. En mi caso, si pensaba que podía hacerlo mejor, tenía que hacerlo", dice Qinwen.  

Qinwen apoya el programa "Boundless Girls", una colaboración entre Nike y la Fundación por el Desarrollo Rural de China cuyo objetivo es impulsar el potencial de las niñas chinas a través del deporte. El programa ha ayudado a más de 160.000 niñas en 700 escuelas. Qinwen quiere motivar a la nueva generación de atletas y rendir homenaje a quienes la precedieron. 

Recientemente participó en la iniciativa Athlete Imagined Revolution , un proceso de cocreación entre atletas de élite y el equipo de diseño e innovación de Nike que aspira a crear el futuro de Nike Air con las tecnologías más vanguardistas. Su prototipo futurista incluía un diseño ondulado inspirado en el año del dragón del calendario chino.
