Qinwen Zheng gana el oro olímpico en singles femenino

En sus primeros Juegos Olímpicos, la atleta de Nike Qinwen Zheng jugó un partido excelente para llevarse el oro en la final de singles femenino.

"Mis compañeros de equipo dicen que tengo fuego en mi interior", afirma la tenista de 21 años. "Pero eso exige saber cómo usarlo contra tu adversaria y no contra ti misma. Canalizo mi espíritu competitivo de una manera muy positiva. Solo así puedo desafiar a jugadoras que están más alto en el ranking".

Llegó a su primera final de Grand Slam este mismo año en el Abierto de Australia de 2024, lo que la convirtió en la primera finalista china después de Li Na en 2014. Este desempeño fue un pico en su carrera que le dio el puesto N.° 7 en el ranking mundial de la Asociación de Tenis Femenino (WTA), cuando tan solo 3 años antes estaba en el puesto 630. "Tenemos que salir a luchar por nuestros sueños. En mi caso, siempre pensé que podía ser mejor, simplemente tenía que hacerlo", asegura Qinwen.  

Qinwen apoya el programa “Boundless Girls”, una colaboración entre Nike y la Fundación China para el Desarrollo Rural que se centra en acelerar el potencial de las niñas mediante el poder del deporte en China. El programa alcanzó a más de 160,000 niñas de 700 escuelas. Qinwen espera servir de inspiración para la próxima generación de atletas y rendir homenaje a las que la antecedieron. 

Recientemente, participó en la incubadora  Athlete Imagined Revolution : un proceso de cocreación entre atletas de elite y diseñadores e innovadores de Nike para crear el futuro de Nike Air usando las mejores tecnologías de vanguardia. Su prototipo futurista cuenta con una confección serpenteante inspirada en el Año del Dragón, según el calendario lunar chino.
