7 Nike athletes on how style fuels them

  • 24 June 2024

Like training in the gym, eating your greens and unplugging to clear your mind, your style—what you wear and how you wear it—can stoke positive energy, for yourself and everyone around you. It's a daily way to express who you are. That's true whether you're a competitor, a coach or a fan. As fitness athlete Tunde Oyeneyin puts it, "How I choose to dress is how I choose to show up in the world—it can make me feel fierce, like a boss, like I command the room. When my clothes make me feel the way that I want to feel, it's like I'm pushing out the energy that I want to come back to me".

Here, seven Nike athletes, captured in Paris ahead of Vogue World, share what their personal style gives them—on the court, on the track, on the pitch and in everyday life.

Romane Dicko, French judoka

"In judo, you have to feel strong on the mat to win. Feeling good in my clothes day to day helps me channel that strength—it gives me self-confidence, it makes me feel powerful".

Dawn Staley, American basketball coach and former player

"I'm big into looking good without trying to look good—when your outfit fits and you have to do nothing. And that all starts with being comfortable in what you're wearing".

Tunde Oyeneyin, American fitness athlete

"What I choose to wear completely dictates the energy that I bring into the day. When I feel free and comfortable and beautiful, it really doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks".

Rouguy Diallo, French triple-jumper

"I'm a minimalist, and I choose my clothes carefully. As an introverted person, it's how I express my full personality, a way for me to speak without speaking".

Ada Hegerberg, Norwegian footballer

"The cliché is, 'look good, feel good'—but there's so much truth to that. The fresher my kicks are when I play football, for example, the faster I feel. And I think that reflects in how you dress day to day as well. What you choose to wear can give you that confidence".

India Sardjoe, Dutch breaker

"Feeling confident in what I'm wearing gives me the energy to be the best version of myself—and it's when I get the best results in competition. That confidence comes from comfort too. You can't fake it. Don't ever fake your style!"

Kirsty Godso, New Zealander and Nike Well Collective Trainer

"Style is such an extension of your attitude. For me, I like to take sportiness to the street because I have sporty energy and I love fusing that into my style. To come off authentic, it's really about finding what's true to you, your own extension".
