Nike has opened its second Playground for All in Seoul, marking its latest effort to create inclusive, supportive environments for youth sport and play.
In partnership with ChildFund Korea and the district of Gangnam (Seoul), the project gives new life to two ageing basketball courts in the district's Gaepo-dong neighbourhood, transforming them into vibrant, versatile spaces designed to get kids moving.
One court has been turned into a multi-use area, providing youth a place to enjoy and explore a variety of sports, while the other has been renovated into an ideal destination for 3-on-3 basketball.
The renovations are intended to inspire local kids with low physical activity rates to pursue daily play and sport, helping them build confidence and foster happier lives, regardless of ability, age or gender.
Nike will further encourage kids to get outside with programming from its Active Modoo initiative, which aims to help everyone, or "modoo" in Korean, enjoy the benefits of physical activity. The programme, launched in 2022, showcases the brand's dedication to helping the next generation develop a sense of belonging and build confidence, unlocking their potential through the power of movement.
The playground opening follows the dedication of the first Playground for All last year in Seoul's Geumcheon district and joins a host of Nike initiatives that aim to make sport and play welcoming and inclusive for the next generation.
Nike has recently convened Coach the Dream summits in Tokyo, Paris and at its World Headquarters in Oregon—gathering partners, coaching experts and community leaders to power the future of youth sport and the next chapter of inclusive youth sports coaching. The brand has also published guides in Japan and France that help remove barriers to play and sport for girls, and it's partnered with the likes of Dove and Spotify to help instil confidence in girls and get them moving.
The new Playground for All in Seoul further highlights Nike's commitment to sustainability, as the renovated spaces reuse materials Nike consumers have donated through the brand's Recycling + Donation programme. Nature-inspired graphics throughout the renovated areas also blend seamlessly with the rest of the park, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere.
