Nike is proud to build on its long-standing relationship with MoMA Design Store by announcing a series of limited-edition product releases beginning with the MoMA Nike Everyday Sock.
Each co-branded release will underscore the connection between movement and design, while offering a reminder that inspiration is often exemplified in everyday objects.
Nike has a long-standing association with MoMA Design Store and The Museum of Modern Art's curatorial programme. In 2017, three examples of the original 1980 design for Nike's Air Force 1 sneakers were included in the MoMA exhibition, Items: Is Fashion Modern? The exhibition featured 111 clothing items and accessories that have had a strong impact on the world in the 20th and 21st centuries. The following year, MoMA Design Store launched the Off-White™ by Virgil Abloh x Nike Air Force 1, accompanied by a co-branded MoMA Nike Elite Basketball Sock.
The next stage of this relationship reflects shared values between Nike and MoMA Design Store. Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman believed that "if you have a body, you're an athlete", an idea that determined Nike's design strategy from its earliest days and has continued to guide the creation of performance products from the widest possible perspective.
This study and understanding of the relationships between fashion and function, material and technology, and aesthetics and culture have become integral to MoMA Design Store's DNA and its commitment to bringing good design to people's lives by selecting objects that meet carefully considered design criteria—all approved by the museum's curators.
As the first product in the series, the MoMA Nike Everyday Sock displays a Swoosh and MoMA branding on the calf, while incorporating unique "Just Do It" stitching on the toe. Shock-absorbing soles and a moisture-wicking upper keep athletes' feet supported and dry, on and off the play.
The MoMA Nike Everyday Sock is available exclusively at United States locations of the MoMA Design Store, where all purchases support educational programmes within the museum. Additional limited-edition and co-branded Nike MoMA products will be announced at a later date.
