Floretschermer en Nike atleet Cheung Ka Long, die voor Hongkong uitkomt, won zijn tweede gouden medaille in het individuele onderdeel floretschermen na een spannende finale. Hij won zijn eerste gouden medaille in Tokyo.

Het motto van Ka Long, 'Don't lose your way', herinnert hem eraan nooit te vergeten waarom hij begon met schermen: om van het spel te genieten en plezier te maken.

Hij groeide op in een sportieve familie. Zijn beide ouders speelden in de nationale basketbalcompetitie van Hongkong. Hij begon in de vierde klas met schermen. In 2017 werd hij een Nike atleet en won hij het wereldkampioenschap voor junioren. Hij ging verder en won de World Cup in 2022 en dit jaar de Grand Prix.

"Toen ik klein was, moest ik wel eens huilen na een verloren wedstrijd en voelde ik me ongelukkig", zegt Ka Long. "Maar mijn ouders zeiden dan 'Zelfs als je verliest, zorg er dan voor dat je tegenstander niet makkelijk wint.' Als ik achter sta, denk ik altijd aan die woorden. Als je me wilt verslaan, maak ik je dat zo moeilijk mogelijk. En op een of andere manier wist ik toch te winnen."
