Cheung Ka Long gana medallas de oro consecutivas

Como representante de Hong Kong, el floretista y atleta de Nike Cheung Ka Long llevó a casa su segunda medalla de oro en esgrima con florete individual masculino luego de un encuentro final lleno de suspenso. Obtuvo su primera medalla de oro en los Juegos de Tokio.

El lema de Ka Long, "No pierdas tu norte", es su recordatorio para nunca olvidar por qué comenzó con la esgrima: para disfrutar el juego y divertirse.

Creció en una familia de atletas (su padre y su madre eran jugadores de la liga nacional de básquetbol de Hong Kong) y comenzó a practicar esgrima en su cuarto año de escuela. En 2017 se convirtió en atleta de Nike y ganó el campeonato mundial junior. Luego ganó el Campeonato Mundial en 2022 y el Gran Premio a comienzos de este año.

"Cuando era pequeño, a veces cuando perdía me ponía a llorar y me sentía muy infeliz", comenta Ka Long. "Pero mis padres me decían: 'Incluso cuando pierdas, asegúrate de que tu oponente no gane fácilmente'. Cuando estaba perdiendo, siempre pensaba en esto. Si quieres vencerme, no puedo dejarte lograrlo tan fácilmente. Y de alguna manera terminé ganando".
